This was a first.

I am back in the job market. Yesterday I had my first interview in a while, it was short, about 5 minutes.

I knew it was a faith-based organization. But this one is known for not being so pushy on the religious agenda, and for upheld humanitarian values. So I decided to give it a shot, they contacted me first, by the way.

“Before going further, I want to make sure you understand that we are looking a christian for this position”. “Well, I was raised catholic, but I am definitely not religious.” The interview ended :)

This is not a post to trash the organization, each shall define their hiring policies, and I still have lots of respect for this one in particular. The conversation was not awkward at all, but frank.

But I created this blog to reflect out loud, so there it is.

If you are recruiting for a position that is already difficult to match in the global market, what happens when you reduce the search to a very specific subset of candidates?

Moreover, these organizations are more permissive with non senior and national positions. So I imagine that there will be many cases where they have to compromise with a candidate with less experience for a country director position than other non senior positions in the same country mission. Must be sometimes frustrating for these people.

In the other hand, not that this will not happen in secular organizations, I know well it does.
